Numeric Mosaic found in LA
I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. I'm reading a lot, exercising somewhat, and recovering from my election news binge. I'm heading out to the Oregon coast next week to escape the Thanksgiving pandemic and looking forward to getting out of the house and into a rustic beach cabin.
Right now, I'm deep into the process of developing some new paper cut art that's poster-sized! I've done the research and sketches and now I'm mocking stuff up in Illustrator. Next is trying to figure out how to cut these posters with a mid-sized laser. I have some ideas. Wish me luck.
- Lately, I've been digging into older books about art process. I picked up these books by Kandinsky: Concerning the Spiritual in Art, and Point and Line to Plane. The language is a little awkward but there are some great ideas in there.
- I've become fascinated with Carl Jung's ideas about the unconscious and creativity. A good introduction to his work is Knowledge in a Nutshell: Carl Jung and Man and His Symbols. I'm also putting The Red Book on my wish list.
- Seth Godin's new book The Practice just came out. I feel that it's his version of Do the Work. I also picked up the book The Deep Yes that Seth recommends.
- Movies worth watching: The Forty-Year-Old Version, Save Yourselves!, Carlos Almaraz: Playing with Fire, Dolly Parton: Here I Am, and Anthropocene: the Human Epoch.
- Every time I'm feeling stuck, I watch this video of Benedict Cumberbatch reading a letter from Sol LeWitt to Eva Hesse. So good.
- I just bought this Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker for my cabin trip. It sounds pretty great for being such a small size.
